This is still the best thing I have ever read about Incubus and validates everything we say about the band...
It starts out...
"When music historians look back on this decade, the most consistently successful modern rock band may turn out to be a bit of a surprise."

I agree...they chose to switch it up so the performance would be better rather than singing it the other way when he knew he couldn't give 100%. I loved the new performance. It still gave me chills!

Wow Jackie - you nailed it with that interview. Funny, Brandon was pulling Dig off so well in 2007 that I'm really surprise it was difficult. Shows what a professional he is - they all are!

Colin: Definitely, very cool. I noticed that you guys are playing a new version of “Dig.” How did that come about?
Chris: Well, “Dig” is probably one of the hardest songs we’ve ever wrote in the studio. We wrote and wrote and wrote and wrote it. All of our songs sorta kind of just flow and they just come out. It’s real obvious how they should go, “Dig” was the exact opposite of that. We kept struggling with it and struggling with it and it just took us a while. We banged it out in the studio and it was in a range that was really hard for Brandon to sing. It’s two different things singing in the studio and singing on the road, two totally different things. It’s like playing an athletic sport. Like running a marathon in Denver opposed to Los Angeles, you know what I mean? When you get up in altitude things become a lot harder (laughs). You know so when we actually got that one down and put it on the record and started playing it live, it became a different thing. It sort of fell out of our setlist because it was a real difficult song to make it sound good live. We didn’t want to abandon it so this time around we thought about.. we dropped it, I don’t know if it’s dropped a whole step, it might even be a step and a half, I’m not quite sure. But we dropped it down, just parts of it and parts we put back in the original key and we just messed it up. I think it sounds cooler then it does on the record.

Kilmore had an interview and they talked about that. If anyone has the link post it! From what I remember he said the hardest song to sound great playing live was Dig and they decided to change it up a little. I think people "dug" it (HA). Brandon ended up in the original key at the end so i wouldn't say he was having a problem.

Ben looks like he thought that was pretty funny! I was also wondering why Brandon was having such a problem singing Dig in his regular key on this last tour when he didn't seem to have a problem at all on the 2007 tour. Anyone heard anything about that?

When I see them all side by side got to go with the kind of redish brown one (so we can match when he discovers that I'm the woman for him and he moves to Minnesota to live with me).

Yeah, that was a really good interview.......on Brandon's half that is. The interviewer totally lacked personality.....I cringed during her delivery on certain questions. She sounded completely uninterested. And I loved that it was via phone, liked the sponetanity of his responses and the fact that it felt like he was actually conversing with me on the phone.

the rhapsody is only available in the States! this sucks.. =(
Thanks for that, Leah! I really enjoyed it. And it reinforces again just how really nice and normal and down to earth they are, how totally NOT full of themselves they truly are. It's so refreshing.
And Jackie, I agree-- the point Brandon makes about them not wanting to be pigeon-holed into a category is great. It says so much about them. I really respect that they want to be free to follow their muse wherever it takes them and not be labeled as this or that type of rock band. The music is more important than pleasing people, and that is exactly the way it should be if a musician is going to be honestly creative. Otherwise, it's just pandering, sucking up to fans and promoters and record companies and putting out a product that is a pre-packaged, calculated commodity.

That part was hysterical! That's totally something I would do if I saw that. And he is very modest. I like how he says, I'm just a person like everyone else. One of the reasons I like them too is because like he said, they don't put themselves in a catagory. They just make music that means something to them. And I liked the five words they used to describe themselves. You could hear the others calling out things in the background...that was funny

The Rhapsody interview is one of my favorites! I have the whole thing on my iPod and I love listening to it. I think I know it by heart at this point! LOL
Jackie: I know, his laugh is infectious, isn't it? I love how modest and down to earth he really is, and his quirky sense of humor. Like when he suddenly notices the big picture of Jesus opening his arms and saying "Come unto me..." and cracks up. (Hope I haven't offended anybody. I just appreciate the sort of thing that makes Brandon laugh.) I absolutely left the shows I saw feeling exhausted and elated. That is exactly the effect Incubus has on me.
