Brandon's Blogs on the BrandonBoydbooks.com website

I was noising around the internet and found a REAL gem. Most of you may already be aware of the fact that Brandon blogs on the above mentioned website. I was unaware of this so maybe some of you are too. I'd been on the website before, read his bio, which only deepened my fascination for him, priced his books, looked at his artwork.....and was on there today to see if there was any current news on whether he still plans to bring his artwork to NYC. That's when I discovered his blogs. I hadn't bothered with it before because I assumed that they were blogs from other people. But I'm so glad that I decided to check it out today. It's AWESOME to have the opportunity to peer into his mind......he's creative, articulate, intelligent and really funny. But you guys already know that, don't you? He hasn't written one since this July and I really hope that he continues to share his thoughts with us. I'd love to know, in his own words, how he feels about this summer's tour now that it's over and he's had some time to reflect on it. He wrote about his excitement regarding the tour in May. This is what he said......

"As you may already know, Incubus is taking it to the streets with a big, hairy US tour this July and August. We are currently plotting one of the coolest shows we have ever devised! And being that we haven't been on the road in the US for quite some time, we plan on leaving in our wake a coiled and bulbous mess of satiated ears and eyes. A lover you meet on a deserted beach once every few years to make dirty, unadulterated and ferocious love to. Only then to wake with the early morning light, sandy and satisfied to a note from said lover that states, "Maybe I will see you next Summer... Here's some fresh pineapple." Wow, I am at the three quarter mark of my coffee right now. Can you tell?"

You've just got to love his way with words.......I can't get enough of it. So, if you haven't read his blogs, you NEED to check them out. If this information is already on the site.....I apologize for being so slow.

That's the beautiful thing about art! I believe he would be ecstatic at your first interpretation Rosario.
I love how he slipped outta the way at the end of that interview to talk to the next person. I find many artists that I surround myself with won't share their pieces and when I ask their reason they find a typical answer like "It doesn't matter to me what other people think because it's art, and it's fairly personal". While I agree, I like to put my pieces out there. The best part about making art is sharing it with people and seeing how it makes them feel.

I had two large, almost finished sketches hanging in my room that many of my friends found attractive. I can't wait to get back to finish them and give it some color! I also can't wait to share them with all of your beautiful minds.

Phal: Thanks so much for posting that interview...though short it was definitely sweet.

You know.....I know that the peices had a definite theme....Ectoplasm, spirit matter, that phenomena photographed so many times at the turn of the century to provide proof of the otherside and the ability to contact that side. But when I first looked at the paintings without reading his explanation of what the theme was I interpreted them as his way of visualizing his creative process and puting that on canvas for all to see.The immediate feeling I got from those paintings was that he had painted what he imagined creativity to look like...... if we had the sensitivity to actually see something like that. That when he was immerced in the impulse to create whether it be through writing, drawing or painting that the mental image of himself that came to mind was of him sitting there while all this matter, creative matter, flowed out of every orifice. And then I realized that the paintings were less about him and his process and more about that phenomena. I don't know....does that make any sense?

Anyways.....this one is my absolute favorite and when I saw that the reprint that hung outside Mr. Music Head was up on the MYF auction I had to seriously hold myself back.

Jackie: Yes! His art has such a profound effect on us. Can you imagine how we will react when his artwork is right in front of us? Or if we could afford to purchase an art piece? Like this LUCKY owner!

I lean against the wind, pretend that I am weightless, and in this moment I am happy...

Haha. I actually know exactly where he got it from! In the movie Anchorman, Will Ferrell's character, Ron Burgundy, says that San Diego means Whale's Vagina.

Leah, I have to ask you: what do you think he meant by comparing San Diego to a whale's vagina? I have always wondered that! And never having been to Cali, I don't have even a clue.

I lean against the wind, pretend that I am weightless, and in this moment I am happy...

Those blogs really do give us a glimpse inside the mind of Mr. Boyd.

I went to their show on July 9th. The next day I went on his site and there was a new post that read...

"... Incubus played the first show of our tour last night in San Diego! Ah, yes... San Diego; a whale's vagina. It was a really fun night! Thank you to all who were there and thanks for making our first big show back as painless as it could be. As you could imagine, first shows back after a year off the road can be rusty, and last night wasn't an exception. But you guys out there made it easy on us and it really seemed like the connection was made! The drugs worked, the wind was blowing off shore, the right guy was elected, the seas parted, hands were held, lips were kissed, arms were outstretched and the stars aligned! So, in no uncertain terms, thank you!"

After I read that post I had the biggest smile on my face! I wanted to reply back saying that a connection was definitely made with the audience and that they rocked out and blew all our minds! Left me speechless and wanting more...

Can't wait for the next post and what it's going to inform us of next!

I haven't read all the post. Perhaps someone mentioned this. But check out Ben's blog! http://benkenney.com/word/

yeah, it's gonna be 50 bucks with shipping and handling stuff. i think that's ridiculous, 12 bucks for shipping... but whatever. I WANT IT. i'm turning 18 so..... YES. it's a landmark age Smiling i should be able to blow 50 bucks on a book. question is it worth it? *resounding* YES. right....?

I have to agree too. Murks definitely. You should start with his later book. It's much more evolved in terms of his writings. Then go back and do White Fluffy Clouds, and see where his head was when he was younger.

Lovedig: How come $50. I got mine for 36. Do you mean $50 with tax and shipping included or for the book alone?
I would buy Murks first. Though both are fantastic.....

Jackie: Brandon-feast.....lol! Good one. XD
And we can do both you know...rock out and read out. ...they could be done on separated sides of the room.

--
when I drive myself my light is found.....

lovedig, i haven't bought Murks so i can't say.. =(
Rosario bought both recently.
which one do you think lovedig should buy first, Rosario?

A reading but definitely rocking out too. It wouldn't be an Incu-Fest otherwise!

Brandon-feast... lol Jackie. So true!!

--
I lean against the wind, pretend that I am weightless, and in this moment I am happy...

okay, it's about 50 bucks for a book.... and i'm only going to buy one, so which one would y'all recommend? there is no way i will get both at the same time.... i'm leaning more towards Murks.

--

lol wowwww, i was totally looking at two threads at once and went to respond to you and amber, and totally mixed up the names. my bad! <3 yeah, i totally understand about the incu-fest. i just think it would be cool to hear other people's interpretations of his art, i always like other opinions because then it broadens my view on things.
